Garba Shehu Refutes Goodluck Jonathan's Claim on Boko Haram Nominating Buhari as Negotiator

Former presidential spokesman Garba Shehu refuted claims by former President Goodluck Jonathan that Boko Haram nominated Muhammadu Buhari as a negotiator. Shehu clarified that neither the group's founder, Mohammed Yusuf, nor his successor, Abubakar Shekau, ever made such a nomination.

He highlighted that the terrorist organization had consistently denounced and even threatened Buhari. Shehu also mentioned that Buhari narrowly escaped a bomb attack in Kaduna in 2014, widely linked to the insurgent group.

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Buhari's former party, publicly rejected the alleged nomination at the time. Speculation about Boko Haram nominating Buhari as a mediator reportedly began in 2012 but was disowned by Shekau.
