Gbenga Daniel Advocates Amnesty for Repatriated Funds

Gbenga Daniel, the senator representing Ogun East and former governor of Ogun State, proposed that the federal government should consider granting amnesty for repatriated stolen funds held abroad. He made this recommendation during a book launch at the Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, which also marked the 70th birthday of former President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

Daniel emphasized that addressing corruption is crucial for Nigeria's progress and highlighted the damaging effects of capital flight and graft on the economy. He suggested that a structured moratorium on amnesty for repatriated funds could provide necessary capital for investment within Nigeria, thereby helping to inject funds into the economy.

Daniel also raised concerns about the distortion of narratives surrounding corruption and the need for a credible information system to empower citizens. He noted the decline in ethical standards in public service and expressed optimism that Nigeria's governance challenges are not insurmountable.
