Operation Safe Corridor Focuses on Victim Rehabilitation

General Yusuf Ali emphasized that Operation Safe Corridor is not designed to prioritize ex-terrorists over victims of terrorism. The operation is continuously evolving to respond to changing security environments across Nigeria.

It involves a thorough screening and classification process, inter-agency collaboration, and coordination with security agencies and the Ministry of Justice to ensure due process for individuals facing prosecution. The program aims to clarify misconceptions, as it is not an amnesty or a recruitment pathway for armed forces.

It seeks to establish decentralized deradicalization and rehabilitation camps, particularly in Zamfara State, to address specific security dynamics in the North West and North Central regions. The initiative recognizes that a significant portion of individuals in terrorist groups are not ideologically driven but coerced or manipulated.

The program also aims to be victim-sensitive, acknowledging the trauma experienced by victims of conflict and ensuring their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
