Weah Urges Strong Judiciary at NBA Conference in Port Harcourt

George Weah delivered the keynote address at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday. He warned against the weakening of the judiciary in Africa, stressing that an independent judiciary, supported by a fearless judicial bar, is essential for democracy.

Weah stated that threats to democracy arise not only from violent means but also from weakened judicial institutions. He criticized governments that claim to be democratic while engaging in corruption and manipulating the judiciary.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, also spoke, urging judges to consider the broader impact of their judgments on society. He highlighted the link between law, order, and national development, asserting that judges must deliver justice with integrity, free from political manipulation and corruption.

Fubara emphasized that the judiciary is crucial for fostering democracy, good governance, and economic development.
