Germany Offers Fast-Track Settlement Permit for Foreigners

Germany has announced the specific steps for foreigners, especially EU Blue Card holders, to obtain a settlement permit in as little as 21 months. The key requirement is language proficiency in German.

According to the German government's official website, Blue Card holders can qualify for a settlement permit under two timelines based on their German language skills. Those with A1 level proficiency can obtain the permit after 27 months, while those who achieve B1 level proficiency can secure it in just 21 months, thus saving six months.

A1 proficiency is considered basic, covering simple greetings and everyday phrases, whereas B1 indicates an intermediate level where a speaker can handle most everyday situations. For Nigerian professionals and other African nationals holding an EU Blue Card, investing in German language classes to reach the B1 level could significantly reduce the waiting period for permanent settlement rights.
