Nigeria Launches Online Portal for Birth and Death Registration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new online platform that enables citizens to register births and deaths, apply for birth attestations, correct civil registration records, and verify certificates without the need to visit an office. This self-service platform was launched by the National Population Commission (NPC) and announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday as part of efforts to digitize civil registration services across Nigeria.

The NOA stated that the platform aims to alleviate the long queues and extensive paperwork currently faced by Nigerians when applying for birth and death certificates. Birth registration for children under five remains free at NPC registration centers, while a processing fee applies for online applications.

Death registration is also free, but applicants must provide the informant’s National Identification Number (NIN) and other relevant details. A confirmation email will be sent upon successful application, and assistance is available at NPC registration centers nationwide.
