Nigeria Launches Online Birth and Death Registration Portal

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a new digital platform to facilitate the registration of births and deaths, apply for birth attestations, correct civil registration records, and verify certificates online. This initiative was introduced by the National Population Commission (NPC) and announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday.

The platform aims to digitize civil registration services, making them more accessible and reducing the long queues and paperwork previously required. Birth registration for children under five remains free at NPC registration centers, while those opting for the online service will incur a ₦5,000 processing fee for birth certificates.

Death registration continues to be free. Applicants must provide the informant’s National Identification Number (NIN) and other personal details of the deceased.

A confirmation email will be sent upon successful registration. The self-service platform is accessible via the NPC’s website, with physical assistance available at NPC registration centers nationwide.
