Nigerians Can Verify Academic Certificates Online Now

The Ministry of Education in Nigeria has launched the ESSVerify portal, allowing citizens to verify academic certificates online without needing to visit the Federal Ministry in person. This transition to a fully digital platform was completed in April 2026, as confirmed by Minister Alausa.
The ESSVerify portal provides end-to-end authentication of Nigerian qualifications and evaluation of foreign certificates. It offers four main services: authentication for local qualifications needed abroad, evaluation for foreign qualifications, issuance of eligibility or English proficiency letters, and letters of no objection for institutional partnerships.
To verify an already-issued document, users can visit the portal, select the document-verification option, and enter the document number. For new applications, users must create an account, complete their profile, and pay the applicable fees.
Payments are non-refundable, and applicants must upload clear scanned copies of required documents. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution to the Ministry's designated email.
