Ghanaian President to Join Democracy Dialogue in Nigeria

The Ghanaian President is set to attend the 2026 edition of the GJF flagship democracy dialogue scheduled for August 11 at the International Conference Centre in Bauchi, Nigeria. The event will explore the role of political parties and the judiciary in safeguarding democracy across Africa.

Key dignitaries expected at the dialogue include Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Sierra Leonean President Dr. Ernest Koroma. The dialogue's theme emphasizes the institutions that sustain democracy beyond the electoral process.

The choice of Bauchi State as the venue is significant, as it is the home of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s first and only Prime Minister. The event will be hosted by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the Chairman and Founder of GJF, and Gov.

Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Karuti Kanyinga, a Board Member of the African Leadership Centre at King’s College London.
