FIFPRO Membership Enhances Ghanaian Player Representation

Ghana's football framework is bolstered by its membership in FIFPRO, which enhances player representation and support. The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), founded by former Ghana international Baffoe, was officially launched in Accra and became a full FIFPRO member.

This membership provides international expertise and advocacy for players. Notable cases include Ghanaian defender Opoku, who, after terminating his contract with Tunisia's Club Africain due to unpaid salaries, received support from PFAG and FIFPRO, leading to a favorable ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that awarded him compensation.

Similarly, forward Acheampong received assistance in his dispute with Egyptian club Zamalek, resulting in a CAS ruling in his favor. Additionally, Ghana has introduced a Standard Player Contract, developed in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association and PFAG, which serves as the official template for professional players and addresses key employment issues, including minimum salaries and dispute resolution.
