Fire Service Chief Urges Motorists to Clear Way for Emergencies

On Friday, during a One-Day National Stakeholders’ Summit on Fire Safety in Abuja, Adeyemi Olumode, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, appealed to Nigerian motorists to always give fire trucks and ambulances the right-of-way, stressing that every second is crucial during emergencies. He highlighted that delays caused by motorists could exacerbate fire incidents, leading to unnecessary loss of lives and property.

Olumode encouraged public involvement during emergencies by keeping access routes clear and providing useful information to firefighters. He noted that the Federal Fire Service requires cooperation from all stakeholders to enhance the nation's fire safety system, especially given the increasing complexity of urban environments and new fire risks.

He emphasized the need for resilience in fire safety, which includes prevention, early detection, and professional response. Olumode also mentioned the importance of public trust in the Fire Service, which he aims to build through professionalism and transparency since taking office a year ago.
