Adama Advances to 50m Freestyle Semi-Finals in Glasgow

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Team Nigeria's Abduljabar Adama qualified for the men's 50m freestyle semi-finals. He achieved this by finishing third in his heat with a time of 22.67 seconds.

Adama, who holds the Nigerian national record, was behind Australia's Flynn Southam, who clocked 22.03 seconds, and England's Jacob Mills, who finished with a time of 22.40 seconds. In contrast, Adama's teammate Clinton Opute had a disappointing performance, finishing sixth in his heat with a time of 23.15 seconds.

Opute is currently positioned as the second reserve for the semi-finals, should any of the qualified swimmers withdraw. Overall, Team Nigeria had a successful opening day at the Commonwealth Games, securing three gold and three silver medals.
