Adama Concludes Commonwealth Games Journey in Freestyle

Abduljabar Adama's journey at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games ended on Saturday evening as he finished sixth in Semi-final 2 of the Men’s 50m Freestyle, clocking 22.44 seconds. Despite a strong performance against a world-class field, he did not qualify for the final.

Adama made history as Nigeria’s lone swimmer to reach the semi-finals, having progressed from the heats earlier that day. His teammate, Clinton Opute, was eliminated in the preliminary round of his event.

Adama had also competed in the men’s 100m butterfly, placing seventh in his heat with a time of 55.81 seconds, while compatriot Colins Ebingha finished sixth in 55.45 seconds, narrowly missing a semi-final spot. Although Adama did not secure a place in the medal race, his achievements mark a significant milestone for Nigerian swimming.

He arrived at the Games as an African junior record holder and previously won silver in the men’s 50m butterfly at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Romania, breaking the national record twice in one day.
