Gombe State Launches Livestock Vaccination Campaign

Gombe State has initiated a statewide livestock vaccination campaign aimed at combating Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in cattle, and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in sheep and goats. The campaign was flagged off by Dr. Jatau, who represented Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, at Tumfure Bashar.
Dr. Jatau emphasized the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, stating that healthy livestock contribute to safer meat, dairy products, and economic activities such as leather production. He noted the government's commitment to livestock development through the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development and various interventions, including the renovation of veterinary clinics and the construction of a veterinary diagnostic laboratory.
Additionally, a Special Livestock Development Zone is being developed, which will include an ultra-modern abattoir and other facilities. Dr. Jatau also mentioned the establishment of a Farmers-Herders Resolution Committee to improve relations between farmers and herders, aiming to reduce conflicts and promote livestock production.
