Gombe State to Receive 1,056 New Police Officers

Gombe State is set to receive 1,056 newly recruited police officers as part of Nigeria's initiative to recruit 50,000 personnel nationwide. This announcement was made by Deputy Inspector General of Police Zachariah Fera Achinyan during a stakeholder engagement meeting held on Monday at the Gombe State Police Command headquarters.

Achinyan noted that the state, which comprises 11 local government areas, will receive 96 officers from the ongoing recruitment exercise. He addressed the critical manpower shortage within the Nigeria Police Force, which he described as grossly inadequate compared to international standards.

Achinyan highlighted the need for community policing initiatives to improve relations between the police and the public. He also condemned unethical practices among police personnel, including extortion and human rights violations, which he stated diminish public confidence in the force.

Achinyan emphasized the importance of professionalism and discipline within the police ranks.
