Ondo State Shines at Governor Diri Wrestling Classic

At the 4th Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classic held in Yenagoa on March 30, 2023, Team Ondo showcased remarkable performances, particularly in women's wrestling. Khadijat Idri from Ondo State dominated the women's 55kg category, defeating Mari Ayeloh from Bayelsa State and Happi Soso from Delta State, who both secured bronze medals.

Damola Ojo also from Ondo State retained her title in the women's 76kg category, winning against opponents in a round-robin format, while the Nigerian Army wrestler laid Ojo settled for silver. Other notable performances included Patience Kakanda from Bayelsa State, who emerged as the new champion in the women's 62kg category, and Esther Asaolu from River State, who retained her title in the 59kg category.

The event highlighted the competitive spirit and talent present in Nigerian women's wrestling, with a total of six medalists recognized in various weight categories.
