Governor Namadi Suspends N1.3bn Hospital Renovation Contract

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has ordered the immediate suspension of a N1.3 billion contract for the renovation and remodeling of Gumel General Hospital. This decision followed an unscheduled late-night inspection of the facility, where the governor assessed the quality and pace of work, particularly in critical areas such as the male and female wards, general patient department, and isolation center.

Governor Namadi expressed dissatisfaction with the contractor's performance, stating that the work completed so far did not reflect the scope of the contract awarded by the state government and described the progress as unsatisfactory. The project, awarded to Yasmeen Automobile Nigeria Limited, has a completion timeline of eight months, with work commencing seven months ago.

The governor emphasized that the administration would not condone poor quality in government contracts and directed the Ministry of Health to suspend the contractor and take necessary measures to protect public funds.
