Jigawa Governor Suspends Hospital Renovation Contract

Umar Namadi, the Governor of Jigawa State, announced the immediate suspension of a ₦1.3 billion renovation and remodeling contract for Gumel General Hospital, citing poor performance and substandard workmanship by the contractor, Yasmeen Automobile Nigeria Limited. The governor's decision came after an unscheduled midnight inspection of the health facility, where he assessed the quality and pace of the work.

During the inspection, Namadi expressed dissatisfaction with the level of work completed, which he deemed grossly unsatisfactory and far below the standards approved by the state government. The contract was originally awarded with a completion timeline of eight months, set to conclude on December 17, 2025.

However, after seven months, the governor stated that the contractor failed to justify the confidence placed in them. Namadi emphasized the administration's commitment to ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively and that all projects, particularly in the health sector, meet the required quality standards.
