Nwifuru Appeals for Disaster Fund to Aid Ebonyi State

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State made an appeal on Tuesday for the federal government to establish a natural disaster fund to assist the state in addressing the growing impacts of environmental disasters. He highlighted that Ebonyi has suffered significant natural disasters recently, resulting in extensive damage to public infrastructure and imposing a heavy financial burden on the state government.

Nwifuru noted that recent windstorms and thunderstorms caused severe damage, including the unroofing of buildings within the government house complex, necessitating costly reconstruction efforts. He also drew attention to environmental challenges posed by mining activities in the state, particularly abandoned mine pits that endanger communities and degrade the environment.

Nwifuru expressed optimism that the ongoing nationwide data verification exercise would enhance the accuracy of revenue allocation figures, ultimately improving the state's revenue. He commended the RMAFC for its professionalism and expressed confidence in the team's ability to conduct the exercise effectively.
