Government Reaffirms Commitment to Release Captives

On Friday, June 26, 2026, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reiterated the Federal Government of Nigeria's commitment to ensuring the release of Nigerians held in captivity. Speaking at an event hosted by the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), led by its National Amirah Dr.

Sumay Fadimatu Hamza, Akume emphasized the government's dedication to national security and the protection of lives and properties. He acknowledged the critical role of faith-based organizations in addressing various challenges facing the country and urged sustained prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

Akume highlighted the government's ongoing security operations and expressed optimism about their effectiveness against kidnapping and criminal activities. He commended FOMWAN for its contributions to national development and called for stronger collaboration between the government and faith-based organizations to foster national cohesion and tackle insecurity.

Dr. Hamza also urged the government to enhance its security architecture and improve intelligence gathering to protect vulnerable communities.
