Abba Yusuf Nominates Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially nominated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state. This nomination comes after the resignation of Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who stepped down amid a prolonged period of political tension.

Gwarzo's troubles began when he defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), creating a rift as he remained aligned with the NNPP. Under pressure to join the governor's party, Gwarzo ultimately resigned and aligned with the African Democratic Congress.

Governor Yusuf's spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, announced Garo's nomination, which follows the provisions of Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution, allowing the governor to appoint a deputy when the office becomes vacant. Garo, aged 48, has spent two decades in public service, holding various roles at local and state levels, including serving as party organization secretary and special adviser to the governor.

He previously contested for the deputy governorship candidacy under the APC in the 2023 elections.
