Governorship Campaigns Launch with Promises for Change

The Governorship and State Houses of Assembly campaigns commenced on September 9, 2026, in accordance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable. Governorship candidates from the African Democratic Convention (ADC) in the seven North Western states signed a Compact 2027–2031, aimed at security, development, and shared prosperity if elected.

Abubakar Malami, the ADC flag-bearer for Kebbi State, highlighted the region's crisis, citing over 16,000 lives lost to insecurity from June 2023 to August 2026 and over 1,583 kidnapping incidents since January 2023. He announced plans for a minimum wage of N110,000 for workers across the seven states.

Meanwhile, Tijani Galadima, the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa, unveiled an agenda focused on agriculture and security, promising to establish processing factories. Kingsley Chinda, the APC candidate in Rivers State, pledged to serve with integrity, while Kelechi Anosike, the PDP candidate in Abia, launched his campaign with a 10-point agenda.
