Experts Urge Nigeria to Strengthen Energy Transition Partnerships

At the fourth Dr Diran Fawibe Annual Lecture, energy experts, academics, and industry leaders called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen collaboration with the private sector and universities to expedite the country's energy transition. They identified weak implementation as the main barrier to transforming the energy sector, despite the existence of several energy policies.

The stakeholders argued that poor execution, regulatory uncertainty, and insufficient investment undermine efforts to ensure reliable electricity supply and promote renewable energy. Dr Diran Fawibe, Group Chairman of International Energy Services Limited and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law, emphasized the importance of energy security for industrialization and economic growth.

He advocated for stable regulatory frameworks and increased investment in research and innovation. Prof. Yinka Omorogbe from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies discussed the public-private shift in energy governance, stressing that it is about effective regulation and operational efficiency rather than mere privatization.
