Nigeria Must Focus on Energy Sufficiency, Says Transcorp MD

Chris Ezeafulukwe, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Energy Limited, emphasized that Nigeria's immediate focus should be on achieving energy sufficiency rather than transitioning to renewable energy. Speaking at Solar & Storage Live Nigeria 2026 in Lagos, he advocated for the coordinated development of all energy resources to address the country's ongoing power deficit.

Ezeafulukwe proposed that the term 'sufficiency' should replace 'transition' in discussions about Nigeria's energy future, highlighting the need for a mix of energy sources. He noted that the current market dynamics are driven by real demand and reforms from the Electricity Act.

Transcorp Energy is actively pursuing renewable projects, including a partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency for a 30MW interconnected mini grid in the Federal Capital Territory. Ezeafulukwe stressed the importance of balanced development across the electricity value chain to ensure progress in the sector.
