Traffic Disruptions as Kara Bridge Repairs Begin

On September 8, the Federal Ministry of Works commenced repair work on the damaged expansion joints of the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leading to significant vehicular gridlock. The traffic congestion began before noon and extended to Ojota, Lagos by 3:00 PM, stranding many passengers at various bus stops.

Commercial vehicle operators increased fares due to the situation. The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed the repairs, which were initially scheduled to start on August 26 but were postponed for traffic review following public concerns.

The rehabilitation project, directed by Minister of Works Senator David Umahi, aims to replace deteriorating expansion joints to enhance road safety, structural integrity, and long-term traffic flow. The repairs are expected to conclude by September 22, lasting for two weeks.
