FERMA to Close Lagos-Ibadan Bridge for Repairs

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) will close the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway for 14 days, beginning September 8, 2026, to conduct urgent repairs on its worn-out expansion joints. Engr. Richard Adeleye, the Acting Federal Controller of Works in Ogun state, announced that the bridge is scheduled to reopen on September 21, 2026.

The repairs are deemed critical due to the degradation of the expansion joints from years of continuous use. Previous repair schedules were postponed due to high traffic volumes, but further delays could lead to severe structural damage.

The rehabilitation will be executed in two phases: Phase 1 will involve work on one half of the carriageway, restricting traffic to a single lane on the opposite side, while Phase 2 will shift to the remaining half. To manage traffic flow and reduce gridlock, officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and other traffic management agencies will be present on-site.

Adeleye urged motorists to plan ahead and consider alternative routes during the closure.
