INEC Denies Link Between Chairman and Controversial Account

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asserted that there is no sufficient evidence to connect a controversial social media account to its chairman, following public outrage over alleged partisan posts made during the 2023 general elections related to the All Progressives Congress (APC). INEC's Director of Communications, during an interview with Channel Television, clarified that the commission does not rely on forensic investigations conducted by third parties, which have not reached definitive conclusions regarding the matter.

The commission has notified security agencies and is conducting its own investigation. INEC emphasized that the issue involves digital impersonation and that the AI system Grok can hallucinate, suggesting vulnerabilities in social media accounts that could mislead the public.
