IPA Urges IGP to Investigate Political Thuggery in Imo

The Ideato People Assembly (IPA), a non-partisan socio-cultural group, has urged Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu to conduct an immediate investigation into political thuggery related to an attack on a political rally organized by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere in Ntuek, Ideato South Local Government Area, Imo State, on April 27, 2026.

The rally was disrupted by armed thugs, resulting in injuries to attendees. The IPA, represented by President Dr.

Vin Igwilo and Secretary General Tochi Ejiofor, condemned the attack in a statement released on Sunday, emphasizing the need for protection of citizens' rights to free assembly as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution. They called on Governor Hope Uzodimma and President Bola Tinubu to ensure the safety of all Imo citizens and to investigate the incident thoroughly.

The IPA expressed deep concern over the use of violence to disrupt democratic processes and insisted that no political seat is worth the blood of innocent citizens.
