YLFN Commends NYSC for Nation Building and Education

The Young Leaders Forum of Nigeria (YLFN) praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its significant role in nation building, national integration, and educational development, particularly in rural areas. In a statement by National Coordinator Dr. Marcus Abechi, the YLFN described the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most impactful institutions, emphasizing the need for improved funding rather than restructuring.

The forum highlighted the NYSC's contributions to education, noting that corps members have filled critical gaps in public schools and provided essential services in various sectors, including healthcare and agriculture. The YLFN acknowledged the success of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which equips corps members with vocational skills, and argued against transforming the NYSC into a conventional skills center.

The statement underscored the NYSC's role in fostering national unity and improving access to quality education in underserved communities over its five-decade existence.
