YLFN Commends NYSC for Educational Contributions

The Young Leaders Forum of Nigeria (YLFN) praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its significant role in nation-building, national integration, and educational development in rural areas. In a statement from their National Coordinator, Dr.

Marcus Abechi, the YLFN emphasized that the NYSC is one of Nigeria's most impactful institutions. They called on the Federal Government to prioritize improved funding for the NYSC, asserting that adequate financial support is essential for achieving its secondary objectives, including skills acquisition and youth empowerment.

The YLFN noted that the NYSC has effectively contributed to education in underserved communities by deploying corps members as teachers and healthcare workers, thereby filling critical gaps in public services. They highlighted the success of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which equips corps members with essential skills for self-reliance post-service.

The forum argued against reforms that would transform the NYSC into a conventional skills acquisition center, advocating instead for strengthening its existing initiatives.
