INTERPOL Arrests Lagos Prince Murder Suspect Tajudeen Akanbi

On August 26, 2024, INTERPOL arrested Tajudeen Akanbi, a suspect in the murder of Lagos prince Ademola Akinloy, who was shot on April 18, 2023, near Ebeano Supermarket in Agungi, Lagos. The Nigerian Police, led by Inspector General Jimoh Mondai, reopened the investigation, which had previously led to the arrest of nine suspects based on intelligence gathered.

Akanbi was apprehended in Cotonou, Benin Republic, on April 15, 2024, after being declared wanted on February 19, 2024. The investigation revealed multiple murder attempts and property destruction linked to the suspects.

The Nigerian Police emphasized their commitment to justice, stating that no individual would escape prosecution regardless of status. The civil society group Ajiran Elit Troup called for thorough investigations and clarified that the case is unrelated to any land disputes or kingship issues.

The police have recovered items from the suspects, including travel documents and mobile phones, as investigations continue.
