Lagos Police Arrest 47 Suspects in Crime Crackdown

The Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olayiwola Tijani, has made significant strides in combating crime, arresting 47 suspects and recovering 14 vehicles along with 14 different firearms and ammunition over a two-week period. Tijani, who assumed office on March 26, 2026, detailed that among the apprehended was notorious thug Jamiu Yaya, who was on the police's wanted list.

The most substantial operation occurred on April 5, 2026, when 21 suspects involved in cult-related activities were arrested at a hotel in Ajao Estate during a birthday celebration for a known cult member. The recovered items included a locally made cut-size single barrel gun, cult-branded envelopes, a laptop, and 23 mobile phones.

The police are currently working to apprehend additional suspects who have fled. Tijani's efforts are seen as a critical move to sustain the fight against crime in Lagos, a city plagued by criminal activities.
