Good Governance Initiative Calls for Expanded Probe into Health Funds

The Good Governance Initiative (GGI), led by Coordinator Eugene Morka, has called on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to broaden their investigation into the alleged misappropriation of donor-funded health intervention funds. The group specifically urged scrutiny of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, which implement health programs financed by international donors.

Morka emphasized the need for the investigation to encompass not only financial transactions but also the integrity of procurement processes, contractor eligibility, and compliance with regulatory requirements. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that contracts were awarded transparently and that winning companies possessed valid government certificates.

The GGI also called for closer examination of international donor agencies that monitor local organizations. Morka described the collaboration between the FBI and EFCC as timely, suggesting it could reveal how health intervention funds are managed.
