Health Ministry and ICPC Launch Anti-Corruption Team

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, led by Coordinating Minister Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have inaugurated a Joint Task Team in Abuja to address corruption in Nigeria's health sector. This initiative is designed to protect public investments and ensure that allocated resources lead to measurable health improvements.

Prof. Pate emphasized the direct consequences of corruption on human lives and outlined the team's role in identifying vulnerabilities and preventing resource misuse. The ministry has deployed 774 Performance and Financial Management Officers under BHCPF 2.0 to verify fund utilization across local government areas.

The ICPC's Executive Secretary, Mr. Clifford Oparaodu, highlighted the importance of a preventive approach to corruption, which impacts healthcare access and outcomes. The Joint Task Team, co-chaired by the Director of Hospital Services and an ICPC Director, will assess the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund's utilization and is established under a two-year agreement, subject to renewal.
