Guild of Sports Editors Urges Reforms in Nigerian Football

The Guild of Sports Editors, representing sports editors and managers in Nigeria, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive action to reform Nigerian football after the resignation of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the General Secretary, and Executive Committee members. Following an emergency meeting, the Guild emphasized that this resignation should initiate substantial reforms rather than merely changing leadership.

They highlighted the decline of Nigerian football, including the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons' historic absence from the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Guild urged the National Sports Commission to form a Normalisation Committee composed of individuals with integrity and competence, warning against appointing political associates.

They called for a clear mandate and timeline for the committee, which should address governance structures, electoral systems, and the legal status of the NFF. Additionally, they demanded a forensic audit of the NFF's finances and ongoing investigations into financial misconduct.
