ANFASSC Calls on Tinubu to Revive Nigerian Football

The Association of Nigerian Football Supporters Clubs (ANFASSC) has formally requested President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to revive Nigerian football, which they believe is losing its prominence. In a letter dated August 20, 2026, signed by national president Abayomi Ogunjimi, the ANFASSC acknowledged the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) autonomy under FIFA and CAF but emphasized the need for presidential engagement to address the crisis in Nigerian football.

They proposed a structured dialogue involving the Presidency, the National Sports Commission, the NFF, and other stakeholders to create a competitive football ecosystem in Nigeria. This appeal comes in light of significant failures, including the Super Eagles' inability to qualify for two consecutive FIFA World Cups, the Super Falcons' absence from the Women's World Cup for the first time since 1991, and the Golden Eaglets missing three consecutive U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

The ANFASSC expressed optimism that with appropriate policies and leadership, Nigeria could regain its status as a leading football nation in Africa.
