Gumi Advocates Public Funding for Mass Weddings in Kano

Sheikh Ahmad Mahmud Gumi, an Islamic scholar, defended the use of public funds for mass weddings, asserting that it is a legitimate aspect of good governance in a Shariah law-driven state. His remarks were in response to the recent mass wedding organized by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, amid criticism regarding the state's significant number of over 800,000 out-of-school children.

Gumi argued that government intervention in facilitating marriages is justified in a context where practices like prostitution, fornication, adultery, and promiscuity are prohibited by both religious and state laws. He emphasized that using public funds to help young people marry, particularly those facing financial difficulties, is a responsible action for the government.
