Kano Governor Yusuf Launches N1.5bn Mass Wedding Initiative

Kano State Governor Yusuf revealed that the state government spent N1.5 billion on the mass wedding initiative known as Auren Gata, designed to assist 1,500 couples in starting their marital lives with adequate support. Speaking at the wedding ceremony, he emphasized that the program was a key promise made during his campaign across the 44 local government areas ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Each bride received N100,000 as dowry and an additional N100,000 as a capital grant for starting a small business. The initiative also provided household furniture, essential items, and food support.

All couples underwent comprehensive screenings, including medical examinations and marriage counseling, to prepare them for married life. Governor Yusuf urged the couples to view marriage as an act of worship and to conduct their homes according to Islamic teachings.

He acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers and Islamic scholars who supported the program, which aims to provide financial, household, and social support to selected couples across Kano State.
