Sheikh Ahmad Gumi Advocates for Clerics to Tackle Banditry

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic cleric, has called for greater involvement of Islamic scholars in addressing banditry in North-West Nigeria. In a post on his official Facebook page, Gumi suggested that deploying credible Muslim clerics to engage bandits through sustained preaching could yield significant results in tackling insecurity.

He emphasized that many bandits are products of ignorance, deprivation, and social neglect, and that religious engagement could complement security operations. Gumi stated that since 2021, nearly six years of preaching to bandits could have achieved more if more credible Islamic scholars had been systematically deployed for this purpose.

He highlighted the importance of reminding bandits of Islamic teachings regarding the sanctity of human life and property. Gumi also noted that public perception of the banditry crisis is often influenced by prejudice.
