Gumi's Threat to Bandits Video Proven AI-Generated

An 8-second video circulating online purports to show Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi threatening to cause nationwide unrest if harm came to bandits. Gumi, 65, serves as Mufti and Mufassir at the Sultan Bello central mosque in Kaduna.

The video, posted by a Facebook page called Napa boy, gained significant traction, accumulating over 8,500 likes, 3,700 shares, and 1,400 comments by September 2, 2026. Many viewers accepted the video as genuine due to Gumi's history of advocating dialogue and government amnesty for armed bandits.

However, a reverse image search found no credible media footage matching the claims, and a broader search yielded no reports of Gumi making such a declaration. Forensic analysis using AI detection tools classified the media as AI-generated, with a 97.9% likelihood that the speech was also AI-generated.

This confirms that the video was manipulated to fabricate a statement that Sheikh Gumi never made.
