Peter Obi Vows Not to Seek Second Term as President

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, declared during an interview scheduled to air on New Central TV that he would not remain in office beyond a four-year term if elected President of Nigeria. He emphasized his commitment to a single term, stating, "Gun to my head, I won’t stay beyond four years." Obi criticized the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, pointing out the rising cost of living and increased borrowing as significant issues.

He described Nigeria's current economic situation as one of the toughest periods in recent history. In the aftermath of the 2023 presidential elections, where Obi finished third behind Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party, he has continued to be a leading voice of opposition, frequently speaking out against the federal government's economic reform policies.
