Gunmen Attack NIPSS in Kuru, One Assailant Killed

On July 1, 2026, at approximately 11 PM, gunmen attempted to breach the security perimeter of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) located in Kuru, Plateau State. The attack was successfully repelled by security personnel, resulting in a gun battle during which one assailant was killed.

Dr. Osim Samuel, head of public affairs at NIPSS, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, stating that the swift and coordinated response from security forces led to the retreat of the attackers.

Other assailants escaped with varying degrees of injury. The institute reassured the public that there was no breach of security and that the safety of participating staff and residents remained a top priority.

Following this incident, security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and have implemented proactive security measures to further strengthen safety around the institute. This attack follows a previous incident two weeks earlier, where three people, including security personnel, were killed.
