Gunmen Kill 20 Security Personnel in Plateau Ambush

On Friday, around 4 PM, gunmen ambushed a combined team of military personnel and local vigilantes in the Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of no fewer than 20 security personnel and vigilantes. The incident involved a fierce gun battle, during which 12 security personnel, including two senior military officers, lost their lives, alongside eight vigilante members.

The attackers reportedly neutralized during the exchange later stormed the Kyaram community, looting properties worth millions of naira and rustling a large number of cattle. This attack is part of a prolonged wave of insecurity affecting border communities linked to Plateau, Taraba, and Bauchi states over the past three to four years.

The statement issued by Barr Garba Aliyu and Shehu Kanam expressed deep sorrow over the loss and condemned the ongoing terrorist activities. They called for urgent intervention from the local and federal governments, demanding the immediate deployment of additional military security forces and the establishment of a permanent security outpost in the affected areas.
