Gunmen Kill 3 Herders, 14 Cattle in Plateau Attack

On August 6, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., gunmen attacked herders in Bangai community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of three herders: Ismail Idris (15), Hamza Aminu (17), and Jafar Umar (17). Yahaya Musa, Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Riyom, reported that 14 cattle were killed and four others were injured.

Musa alleged that the attackers were suspected Berom militia members from Anguwan Weren in Rim Ward. The incident has caused significant economic hardship for the affected families who rely on livestock.

Musa urged the Plateau State Government and security agencies to investigate the attack and ensure justice. The Fulani Community condemned the violence and called for calm among community members.

Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, denied any involvement by their members. Efforts to obtain comments from the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Enduring Peace were unsuccessful.
