Armed Bandits Kill Four in Benue Market Attack

On Tuesday evening, suspected armed bandits attacked the Abeda Shitile community market in Logo local government area, Benue state, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to five others. The deceased were identified as Msoo Chan, Suurshater Iornumbe, Terkimbi Ikyereve, and Pastor Terungwa Hungwa.
The injured included Gangera Kumater, Helen Iortyom, Terungwa Tsetim, Kumater Awua, and Orkertyo Iortyom. Youth leader James Gbor reported the incident on social media.
Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened fire indiscriminately. A Mobile Police unit stationed nearby reportedly did not intervene effectively, only firing shots into the air.
Residents suggested that the attack might have been retaliatory, following the killing of a suspected armed group leader named Swaga by security operatives weeks prior. This incident adds to the ongoing violence in the Logo local government area, where attacks on communities and security personnel have been frequently reported.
