Gunmen Kill Five in Mangu Market Attack, Injure Two

On a Friday evening, five individuals were confirmed dead and two others critically injured following an attack by suspected gunmen at the Friday market in Mangu, located approximately 52 miles south of Jos, the capital of Plateau State. The attack took place around 8:30 p.m. in the section of the market known for perishable goods, where many traders were preparing to close for the day.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants entered the market and began shooting indiscriminately, leading to panic as hundreds fled, abandoning their goods. Local sources indicated that the injured victims are currently receiving emergency treatment at a nearby hospital.

Community members described the scene as chaotic, with victims suffering injuries to their abdomen and lower limbs. This incident occurred shortly after a local development association expressed concerns over ongoing insecurity in the area, noting that over 750 of its members have been killed in terror-related attacks in the past three years.

Security agencies have not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack.
