Gunmen Kill Driver, Abduct Passengers on Benin-Lagos Highway

On a Sunday, gunmen ambushed a Guo Transport vehicle traveling along the Benin-Lagos highway, resulting in the death of the driver and the abduction of an unspecified number of passengers. The attack occurred when heavy gunfire forced the driver to halt, leading to the driver being shot dead on the spot.

The assailants then whisked the passengers away into the surrounding bush. A viral video captured the aftermath of the incident, which included a narrative of the attack where the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle.

ASP Eno Ikoedem, a spokesperson for the Edo State police command, confirmed the incident and noted that a manhunt had been launched to apprehend the suspects. She stated that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Iguobazuwa police division, and the Commissioner of Police has directed that adjoining divisions join in the bush combing efforts to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

The police assured that operations are ongoing to improve safety along the highway.
