Police Launch Rescue Operation After Lagos-Benin Attack

On April 18, 2026, at 6:00 PM, gunmen attacked a commercial bus belonging to GUO Transport Company on the Lagos-Benin highway, near Iguobazuwa, Edo State. During the attack, the assailants opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver and injuring a female passenger who was subsequently hospitalized.

Five passengers were forcibly taken into a nearby forest. Following the incident, the Edo State Police Command, led by ASP Eno Ikoedem, began a rescue operation.

Commissioner Agbonika ordered an immediate escalation of rescue efforts across adjoining divisions along the Benin axis. The police deployed an anti-kidnap unit and tactical teams, including local hunters, to comb the surrounding forest.

The driver’s body was recovered and deposited in a mortuary, while investigations continue. The police reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted passengers and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
