Gusau Resigns as NFF President Amid National Discontent

Ibrahim Gusau confirmed his resignation as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on [date not specified], after nearly four years in office, having been elected on 30th September 2022 during the Annual General Assembly in Benin City, Edo State. Alongside him, General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi and 11 other board members also stepped down amid national dissatisfaction over the poor performances of Nigeria's national teams.

Gusau stated his resignation aims to facilitate a comprehensive reform process to address longstanding challenges in Nigerian football. He expressed satisfaction with his administration's achievements, including advancements in coaching education, improved domestic league stability, and infrastructure developments such as a 68-room Players’ Hostel.

However, his resignation was prompted by recent failures, notably the Super Falcons' absence from the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Gusau attributed these setbacks to underfunding and economic disparities.
