NFF Executive Committee Members Set to Resign Amid Crisis

Members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are reportedly preparing to resign to facilitate significant reforms in Nigerian football administration. This decision follows mounting pressure on the NFF leadership, led by President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, due to disappointing results from Nigeria’s national teams.

Notably, Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons did not secure a spot for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has publicly called for new leadership, emphasizing the need to avoid missing a third consecutive World Cup.

The NFF has dismissed the technical crew of the Super Falcons and established a fact-finding committee on August 17, 2026, to investigate the causes of these failures. Despite these actions, demands for administrative changes persist.

The NFF had scheduled an Executive Committee election for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, but conflicting reports have emerged regarding the government's stance on the board's resignation.
